2026 Summer STEAM in the Musuem

Join us for our exciting and engaging kids STEAM program this summer, designed to ignite creativity!

Using Museum artifacts as inspiration for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities makes learning more engaging and meaningful, as well as sparks their curiosity.

Weekly challenges will give the kids a chance to develop problem-solving and observation skills, work with interesting tools and materials and learn how to work as a member of a team!

Visit the museum on Monday mornings - July and August to invent, create, build and have fun!

Online registration is preferred but walk-ins are always welcome!

Registration: 9:45 AM.  Program begins promptly at 10:00 AM and will end at 11:00 AM!

AUGUST S.T.E.A.M. PROGRAMS

August 3rd

Challenge: Anchor & Mooring

The kids will tour the museum, inside and out, to see and learn the different types of anchors, then they will be tasked with making their own chain from one piece of paper and using their ingenuity to make it the longest possible chain!

August 10th

Challenge: Communication is Key

Students investigate how sound travels through string and air. They will be challenged to redesign the string telephone for distance.

August 17th

Challenge: Boats that Float

Kids will discover what makes a boat float and design their own boats with bouys.

August 24th

Challenge: Egg Drop Challenge

In this activity, the kids will tour the museum with a focus on natural disasters that have impacted LBI.  They will learn about the change from potential energy to kinetic energy and the energy transfer that occurs on impact.  Using engineering design, the kids will design, create and test a device that will prevent a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a specific height.

"My children look forward to this every summer vacation - rain or shine.  They learn so much while having fun!  Highly recommend!
