The History of the Lenape and the Museum's Canoe

The canoe was found in 2006 by Tom and Samantha Kelly, who graciously loaned it to our Museum. It was originally found in Beach Haven. After, it was sent to Philadelphia for carbon dating. It was found that it originated sometime between 140-410 AD. Most Native American canoes that have been found have been discovered under water. Due to the good condition of the canoe and the fact it was washed up on the shore instead of under the water, the canoe's preservation is enhanced.
